The ISHPI Exceptional People Program focuses on the needs and support of vital organizations aiding children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities such as:

  • Special Olympics South Carolina, who provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities (www.so-sc.org)

  • Tri-County Autism Puzzle Place Academy (TCAPPA) a facility designed to serve individuals diagnosed with Autism in the Tri-County area (www.tcappa.org)

  • Rein & Shine, which has created and sustained an equine-assisted therapy facility where people with disabilities of all kinds can learn, grow and heal (www.reinandshine.org)

  • The College of Charleston’s Realizing Educational and Career Hopes (REACH) Program providing students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities the opportunity to realize their intellectual and personal potential, and to become responsible, productive members of society (reach.cofc.edu)

  • Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) Chippewa County 4-H Therapeutic Riding Program for children with disabilities in the Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Area (4-H Program)

  • Charleston Area Special Olympics and the Mount Pleasant Recreation Departments Unified Athletics program (MPRD) both focused on providing opportunities for children with disabilities to participate in team sports and to train and compete in athletic events.
